Duststorm, rain claim two lives

SUKKUR, June 11: At least two people were killed and many others injured when a heavy duststorm followed by rain lashed districts of the upper Sindh on Saturday. The ferocious winds uprooted trees and brought down billboards. Electricity and communication systems in most of the upper Sindh districts were disrupted.

Several trees and electric poles fell on roads and the National Highway. Hoardings and roofs of thatched houses were blown off and some houses in a Naushahro Feroze village caught fire due strong velocity winds.

A flight of the Pakistan International Airlines, PK-391, which was expected to land at the Sukkur Airport at 7:00pm routing through Islamabad-Lahore-Sukkur-Karachi landed at the Lahore Airport because of bad weather.

According to a PIA official the flight would take off for Sukkur after 8:30 PM.

DADU: Two people were killed and 12 others injured in three different rain-related incidents in the district.

A man, Ghafoor Panhwar, was killed and four others were injured in Buth Mohallo, Dadu, when a roof of their house collapsed.

Different towns of the district including Dadu, Johi, Bhan Syedabad, Khudabad, Phulji, Sita Road, and Khairpur Nathan Shah received a hailstorm coupled with strong winds.

As a result, electricity and telephone system in the areas was severely affected.

A woman, Gul Bibi Brohi, was killed when a roof of her house collapsed in Brohi village near Johi.

Eight people were injured when a truck slipped off the road and fell in a waterway on the Indus highway near the Makhdoom Bilawal village.

A high voltage 11kv wires fell on roads in Johi and Dadu town due to windstorm as a result there was complete power breakdown in the towns.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: At least 17 katcha houses were reduced to ashes in a village near the town after a heavy duststorm hit the district.

A power breakdown also hit the entire Naushero Feroze district on Friday and Saturday.

A fire broke out in the house of Mir Khan Khoso in Mir Khan Khoso village while food was being cooked inside a straw hut.

Due to fast winds the fire engulfed other huts in the village, killing four buffaloes, six goats and around 40 bags of wheat.

The power supply went off on Saturday at 4:30pm and till filing of the report it could not be restored.

Hesco officials could not be contacted despite best efforts.

Rains lashed Naushero Feroze and adjoining towns including Bhirya, Pad Edan and Moro at 4:30pm and continued intermittently till night.

KHAIRPUR: A heavy duststorm paralyzed routine life in the district on Saturday evening.

Following duststorm, a heavy rain lashed different areas of this district.

The rain which lasted for two hours caused breakdown of electricity for long period and also disrupted telephone system.

The duststorm and rain caused difficulties for the people. Trees fell on the National Highway.
