Brummel, Poly Nest on hat trick trail
LAHORE, June 11: Three-year-old English colt, Brummel, who has won two back-to-back races, will be targeting the feature event to complete a hat trick when he contests during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Brummel will be vying for supremacy in a field of nine runners in the Sukkur Plate, a class III handicap race to be gone over 1400 metres.
After winning a race, the May Day Cup over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres, Brummel ran another good race to win the Midas Cup over 2000 metres impressively on May 15 last to make it two in a row.
Again he was to run in the Lodhran Plate over 1600 metres during May but the race was cancelled prior to its running.
The son of English sire, Polish Precedent out-of-Fashion, Brummel is pitted against English and Pakistani thoroughbreds in a mixed race.
His close rivals could be Rock The World and Lucky winner. This will be the seventh and last race of the day.
Likewise Brummel, a three-year-old local thoroughbred filly, Poly Nest is also on hat trick trail. She will be going all out to make it three in a row.
The daughter of Polinesso out-of-Cinciatti, Poly Nest, is in an excellent form and should romp home an easy winner, when she is handicapped at light weight of 7-4.
Poly Nest, is a thoroughbred filly and half sister to Ponche and The Conqueror, who are very good horses in their own right.
This will be the sixth race of the day to be gone over 1400 metres. Four contenders come into reckoning in the fourth race, Chenab Plate class IV division II & III to be gone over 1400 metres.
They are: Eid, Achilles, Puma The Great and Green Street. Eid ran a good race in her last outing, a fortnight back and has been assigned top weight in the handicap at 9-4.
His owner, Malik Hamid Ali Noon, is not satisfied the way the filly has been handicapped and has appealed to the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards for a review of the filly’s assigned weight in the handicap.
Achilles ran a good second last time out. The five-year-old horse, Green Street has come down in the handicap considerably and how his trainer and owner view such slidedown in the handicap and what they are up to will be seen on Sunday.
However, the race is between the three. Penalty Corner and Charming King are the chance animals in the fourth race to be gone over 1200 metres.
Penalty Corner was beaten by Chici Chitta in her last outing, when Chici Chitta took the entire Racecourse by surprise with a tremendously improved perforformance.
Penalty Corner should make amends this time and pick up the spoils for owner, Munir Ahmad Dar.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have decided to continue with the racing programme without any break.
Previously, they had decided to suspend races for a month from mid June to mid July in view of the scorching summer.
Since the majority of the owners were not in favour of suspension of races and have appealed to the stewards to review their decision, the stewards withdrew the earlier decision and decided to go ahead with the racing programme even in scorching summer.
The first race will be held at 1.30pm.
