Cleanliness drive in Galliat

Published June 12, 2005

LAHORE, June 11: Waste Busters and Shell Pakistan will launch a cleanliness drive at Nathia Gali, Jheka Gali and other galliat in Abbotabad and Murree during the summer holidays. The decision was taken at a meeting between Waste Busters chairman Asef Farooque, Shell Pakistan Managing Director Farooq Rehmatullah and Abbot-abad DCO Ehsanullah Khan.

Besides cleaning waste from the areas, special events would also be arranged to create awareness about environment protection among the people.

The DCO said that cleanliness and disposal of waste became a serious problem in the mountain resorts during the summer holidays due to the influx of a large number of tourists. The people visiting the resorts spoiled the beauty of the mountains and polluted the environment by dumping garbage at open places, he added.

He said that the galliat administration approached the multinationals for assistance in keeping the resorts clean as they had their guest houses there.
