LAHORE, June 11: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has said serious parking problems have been created at the commercial areas in the city because of 69 per cent increase in the number of motor vehicles during the past one year. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly-constructed roads and other development works carried out by the CDGL in and around the Liberty Market here on Saturday, the nazim said the parking problems could only be solved by providing adequate spaces at all commercial buildings by construction of (parking) plazas.
He advised the traders to build a parking plaza at the site earmarked at the market on a self-help basis for solving the problem. He said the fire-brigade had been refurbished to combat incidents at Liberty Market in an effective manner.
About the district government’s achievement, the nazim said the Lahore Development Authority was on verge of bankruptcy and could not pay salaries to its employees when its control was transferred to the CDGL four years ago. But now it had been made financially strong once again and was in a position to launch new housing schemes, he said.
Lahore Qaumi Tajir Ittehad President Khwaja Azhar Gulshan and City Muslim League Secretary-General Sohail Butt appreciated the efforts made by the nazim for the city district’s development.
