KARACHI, June 11: The Sindh government has allocated Rs340.068 million for 31 new educational schemes under Public Sector Development Programme-2005-06. It will also provide a funding of Rs659.319 against 37 ongoing schemes. A maximum of Rs320 million has been allocated for nine ongoing and four new schemes of elementary education in the province.
According to PSDP details, a total of Rs1 billion, out of a total of Rs24 billion, has been allocated for education sector. The PSDP allocation for the fiscal year 2004-2005 was Rs660 million, while the actual expenditure is yet to be known.
No new scheme will be initiated in the special education sub-sector during the new fiscal year, while an amount of Rs44.3 has been allocated for two ongoing schemes pertaining to rehabilitation of institutions and additional improvement of the Government College of Physical Education, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
Among the new schemes to be undertaken by the Sindh education department, four are for elementary education, two for literacy/non-formal education, one for teachers’ education, two for the education foundation, three each for secondary and technical education and seven are for college education, while another nine schemes have been put under miscellaneous head.
The government has planned to spend a total of Rs40 million for strengthening of monitoring and evaluation in the education and literacy department, as a new scheme, while an amount of Rs5 million has been allocated for 2005-06.
An amount of Rs10 million has been allocated for private-public sectors partnership in rural areas, while the government intends to spend another Rs20 million for new schemes of literacy centres and non-formal education centres.
Under the new schemes, an amount of Rs10 million has been allocated in the PSDP for training of teachers in English Language, Maths and Computer. An allocation of Rs70 million has been made for up-gradation of middle schools to high schools and secondary schools to higher secondary schools in the province.
Another Rs15 million is likely to be spent for new technical education schemes, including the establishment of polytechnic/vocational institutes.
The government has also planned to establish a cadet college in Gadap Town for which an amount of Rs25 million has been allocated in the PSDP. One cadet college each in Nawabshah and Naukot would also be launched in the coming year.
It will initiate new schemes, under miscellaneous head, pertaining to improvement of facilities and addition/alteration at the Sindh Adabi Board, Jamshoro, which will cost Rs13 million in the first year.
