PCB fails to take action against players involved in acts of indiscipline

LAHORE, June 10: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) once again succumbed to player power and decided to look the other way and not take any action against the players involved in acts of indiscipline during the tour of West Indies.
The PCB ad-hoc committee met here on Friday and discussed the tour of the West Indies and expressed its satisfaction at the success of the tour, according to a press release issued by the board.
During the tour there were a couple of acts of indiscipline by the players which not only brought the game into disrepute but tarnished the image of Pakistan cricket.
Yousuf Youhana’s spat with Abdul Razzaq in the one-dayer witnessed by the millions on the television and the distasteful dressing room bust-up involving stand-in skipper Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Inzamamul Haq were widely reported by the media both at home and abroad.
Ironically the dressing room incident during the first Test in Barbados occurred while PCB chairman Mr.Shaharyar M.Khan was there.
“Mr Saleem Altaf gave a briefing on the recently completed West Indies tour. The committee expressed its satisfaction at the success of the tour and congratulated the team and management on their achievements,” the press release stated without mentioning anything about the acts of indiscipline or action taken against the players.
The committee decided to continue central contract with players, after expiry of the first one on July 10. The next term of contract is for one year.
However, it will be reviewed after six months for cricketers who have been unfit or under scrutiny for suspect bowling actions.
The names of the players who will be offered the contract, however, will be announced later after consulting the selection committee.
The implementation of the new constitution has been further delayed as the board had not received the draft after amendment from Justice (retd) Karamat Nazir Bhandari. Mr Karamat had framed the new constitution and handed it over to the board on April 27.
But the board sent it back to the Justice suggesting some amendments about six weeks ago.
However, the board till Friday had not received the draft with amendments. “The committee was informed that Justice Bhandari’s final draft would be completed in the next few days. The committee agreed that the document should be presented to the patron immediately on receipt,” the press release said.
The committee also reviewed proposals about the regional cricketing set-up, installation of floodlights, electronic scoreboards and video screens in Multan, Faisalabad and Peshawar stadiums.
The committee formed a committee comprising Imtiaz Ahmad, Zulifqar Ahmed and Iftikhar Bukhari to recommend appropriate proposals within a week for organizing a match for legendary medium-fast bowler Fazal Mahmood, who died early this month.
The committee asked the PCB director cricket operations Saleem Altaf to prepare a report in a month on the policy guidelines and staffing for the national and regional academies.
