KARACHI, June 10: Federal Minister for Communications Shamim Siddiqui has announced expansion of Superhighway, linking Karachi to Hyderabad, with focus on turning it into a six-way lane inter-city project.

Speaking at the concluding session of a workshop, organised at Karachi University, the minister said that work on the scheme would commence soon. He further stated that companies and engineers from Turkey and Malaysia have been invited to undertake the project.

Mr Siddiqui stated that an ambitious plan was also under way to develop an efficient road network between Pakistan and other countries located in the region.

Reiterating that the government is committed to strengthen infrastructure in the country and providing maximum employment opportunities to the people, he said it was under the very strategy that Pakistan is keen to attain the set export target of US$14 billion during the fiscal year 2005-06.

This is in the backdrop of the fact that Rs60 billion have been allocated under the current financial year for infrastructure development, he said.—APP
