Duty exemption

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 10: The government has proposed to exempt from customs duty and other taxes on plant, machinery, equipment, stores, furnitures and fixtures to be imported for a major hotel project in Gwadar.

Owing to non-enactment of the Gwadar Port Authority Bill, 2004, the exemption regime available for goods imported into and exported from the Export Processing Zones does not apply to instant projects. Therefore, it has been proposed that the exemption regime may be extended to imports meant for projects such as hotels and power generation and water treatment plants, subject to recommendations of the ministry of communications and the ministry of industries and production.
