Changes in tax system discussed


ISLAMABAD, June 9: The Senate Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs and Statistics on Thursday underlined the need for streamlining the tax collection system. The committee, which met here under the chairmanship of Senator Ahmed Ali, examined several proposals and finalized recommendations for consideration by the house.

The Senate had directed the committee to consider the proposals submitted by senators for incorporation in the Finance Bill 2005. The committee will continue discussion on the bill on Friday.

Senators Nisar Ahmad Memon, Agha Pari Gul, Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, Asif Jatoi, Mohammad Amin Dadabhoy, Prof Khurshid Ahmad, Dr Mohammad Akbar Khwaja, Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Safdar Ali Abbasi attended the meeting.

Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Salman Shah, Minister of State for Finance Omar Ayub and CBR chairman Abdullah Yousaf were also present.—APP
