Protest against labourer’s killing

By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, June 9: Several trade and labour organizations took out a procession on Thursday to protest against alleged killing of a labourer by activists of an outlawed organization. They said the allegation of wheat theft from a mosque against Tassaduq Husain was baseless.

Workers of various organizations, including the Anjuman-i-Tajran, marched through various city roads and demanded immediate arrest of the suspects.

Later, the protesters dispersed on the assurance of the city police higher-ups that they would take an appropriate action against the suspects.

Tassaduq was allegedly tortured to death by nine members of an outlawed politico-religious party on the charge of stealing wheat from mosque.

His widow, Nusrat Bibi, told Dawn on Thursday that his husband did not steal wheat from the mosque.

She said the activists threw him in front of his residence in a serious condition three days ago. He breathed his last on Tuesday.

The report of the postmortem conducted by the DHQ hospital confirmed torture of the labourer.

Police have already registered a case against the suspects.
