KARACHI, June 8: The general body of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) meets in Lahore on Friday to settle the dispute between two warring factions by holding the elections. The meeting has been convened by the Secretary, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Abdul Khaliq Khan.
The POA had to intervene after elections could not be held following the expiry of S. H. Shah’s sixth consecutive term as president in February 2003.
Since then, in the absence of an elected body, the affairs of the game were managed by a two-member interim committee and also the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
An arbitration committee formed by the POA president, Lt. Gen Arif Hasan, had given the finding that after the expiry of the tenure of office bearers of executive committee, PTTF does not exists.
Eight affiliated units of the PTTF as on July 7, 2003, will exercise their votes. The provinces had two votes each whereas departments one apiece.
The affiliated units are Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, NWFP, Habib Bank, Allied Bank, Railways and Wapda.
The fate of two women’s councillors - wife and daughter of S. H. Shah, who were inducted after July 7, 2003, will be decided by the POA.
Mr. S. M. Sibtain, a former secretary of the PTTF, is contesting for the post of president.
