Published June 9, 2005

KARACHI, June 8: The Customs Preventive recovered 36 kg of brown coloured heroin worth $3.6 million from an export consignment of wooden articles at the Karachi Port. The consignment was destined for Kuwait. According to a spokesman for the Customs Preventive, the customs staff on a tip off took into custody a container at the Karachi Port carrying a consignment of wooden furniture and handicrafts meant for export to Kuwait.

The articles were drilled, which revealed the presence of light brown coloured heroin powder, packed in plastic bags and skilfully concealed in specially made cavities inside the furniture.

The consignment was seized and an FIR was lodged under the Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1997.

Further investigation for the suspects’ arrest is underway.
