OKARA, June 7: A high school in the district is running short of human and material resources for long, as the authorities concerned have failed to provide facilities there. The issue was highlighted during a meeting of the school’s management committee, chaired by senior headmaster Muhammad Siddique.
The committee was informed that 2,400 students were on the rolls of the Government Islamia High School (city), but nine vacancies of teachers were lying vacant.
According to a Punjab government policy, the school requires at least 30 teachers for the current strength of students. Besides, a post of naib qasid is also vacant.
The school has only one sweeper, who can hardly keep it clean.
Ranked among the four government-run old high schools in the city, the institution is said to be providing quality education to students.
The result was 91 per cent in the middle school board examination. However, it could not give admission to its own students, who had passed their middle examination from thanks to the shortage of classrooms.
Apart from more classrooms, the school requires furniture as the students have to sit on the floor.
The authorities concerned have failed to get a portion of the school vacated from encroachers despite a court injunction to the effect. The school had been in litigation for the last 40 years.
