HYDERABAD, June 7: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad bench, on Tuesday issued notices to the regional police officer of Mirpurkhas, district police officers of Mithi and Mirpurkhas, town police officer of Diplo and the Sindh additional advocate general on two petitions alleging police highhandedness.

Arbab Akbar Adil Nohari in his petition prayed for recovery of his grandfather, Arbab Murad Ali, 70, detained at the Diplo police station. He alleged that Mr Ali had been falsely implicated in cases of murder and theft of goats because he was a political opponent of the ruling party and contested elections against the Arbabs of Tharparkar.

He said now Mr Ali had been booked in a power pilferage case lodged with the Diplo police on the complaint of the assistant line superintendent, Shahbaz. He said he had been granted bail by the civil judge in the sum of Rs20,000 and his release writ had been issued on June 2.

However, he said, after the release writ, TPO Falzaur Rehman and jailer Mehro Mal re-arrested Mr Ali from the judicial lockup without any case. He said more than 24 hours had lapsed but police had neither produced him in the court nor shown him arrested.

In an identical matter, the court ordered the Mirpurkhas RPO to produce detainee Mohammad Khan Lund, father of petitioner Abdul Aziz, and list of cases against him on June 15.

The petitioner said his father was in custody of the Diplo police.
