SRINAGAR, June 6: Mujahideen shot dead five people while Indian troops killed eleven militants in separate clashes in the past two days in occupied Kashmir, police said on Monday.
Suspected militants kidnapped four people and subsequently shot them dead in the districts of Baramulla and Anantnag on Sunday, a police spokesman said.
“Heavily armed militants raided their houses and abducted them,” the spokesman said.
He also said gunmen, believed to be militants, stormed the house of another civilian in the village of Darman in southern Doda district on Sunday and shot him dead.
No Kashmiri group claimed responsibility for the killings.
Meanwhile, Indian troops shot dead 11 Kashmiris in separate clashes in the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, Poonch and Rajouri late on Sunday and early Monday, the spokesman said.
“All the militants were killed in clashes sparked by cordon and search operations of the soldiers,” he said, adding a large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from the site.
The weekend death toll was the highest in months.—AFP
