SC grants bail to former MNA

ISLAMABAD, June 6: A full bench of the Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to former PPP MNA Aziz Memon on furnishing surety bond of Rs1 million. The former PPP parliamentarian and Labour Task Force chairman, Abdul Aziz Memon, was awarded seven-year incarceration by the accountability court for having assets beyond his known sources of income.

The Supreme Court bench comprised Justice Hamid Ali Mirza, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Nasirul Mulk.

Senior advocate Khalid Anwar, representing Mr Memon, submitted before the court that his client had been in jail since 2001 and only three months were left in completion of his seven- year rigorous imprisonment. He requested the court to grant bail to his client.

Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Nasir Saeed Sheikh appearing on behalf of the federal government opposed the bail plea.—PPI
