NALC speaker satisfied with pace of uplift

GILGIT, June 6: Speaker of the Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC), Malik Mohammad Miskeen, said the government had been giving special attention to improving the lot of the people in the region. Briefing a delegation of probationers of the Information Group in his office, Mr Miskeen lauded the efforts of the government, saying that the region had seen tremendous progress in development activities.

The region was moving ahead satisfactorily despite geographical problems, he said.

The speaker said there had been immense potential for investment in the tourism sector.

He specifically referred to the project of laying a network of roads which would contribute to the development of the region.

In reply to a questioner, Mr Miskeen said President Musharraf had done a lot to empower women in the region.
