Thai club get better of Indians

ISLAMABAD, June 5: Samsom of Thailand handed India’s Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) a straight sets defeat on Sunday, the fifth day of the week-long Men’s Asian Club Volleyball Championship at the Liaquat Gymnasium. The 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 victory was Samsom’s first of the competition and came about through the fine efforts of Tabwises Wanchai, Saiphum Svpachai and libro Yutthayong Sarayut.

Samsom now have five points from four matches while India have four after having played three matches.

Although their players Amir Singh, Anil Kumar and Ranguveer displayed fine skills, they could not check the Thai onslaught.

In another match, Shanghai of China picked up their second win with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-17 thrashing of Uzbekistan club Uzi Samarkand.

The Chinese pinned down their rivals through their offensive play to which the Samarkand side had no answer.

Lu Ning Xin, Wang Ye and libro Zhang Honk did well for Shanghai who have six points with two wins and as many defeats.

Results:

Samsom (Thailand) bt HSIDC (India) 25-19, 25-20, 25-15, Shanghai (China) bt Uzi Samarkand (Uzbekistan) 25-17, 25-12, 25- 17. Fixtures for Monday: Saipa (Iran) v HSIDC (India) at 12.00pm, Rahat (Kazakhstan) v Shanghai (China) at 2.00pm, Habib Bank (Pakistan) v Samsom (Thailand) at 4.00pm.
