KARACHI May 4: Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s three-year-old bay colt Leopard, after his splendid victory last week with riding boy Mohammad Essa in the saddle, is on song to win again, when the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday afternoon.
Participating in the fifth event going over the distance of five furlongs, Leopard in fact starts off as our day’s best and should pass the winning post without raising much of a sweat, followed home by Bold Commander and Fantastic Again.
All in all seven events have been chalked up for the afternoon’s programme. The first five will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, with the last two going over six.
The first race begins at 2.30 p.m.
In the opener, the six-year-old Sea Biscuit, finishing third in his last two outings, should make amends and pass the winning post ahead of his other eight rivals, followed home by Ladla and Canon Love.
In the next event, the dark bay horse National Lining if genuinely tried should pass the winning post ahead Silent Love and Tag Team, although the latter ran a very bad race last Sunday.
Although the bay filly Clapping did not impress her connections last time out, she is fancied in these columns to triumph in the third race carrying only 7-12 on her back, chased throughout the five furlongs sprint by Canon Ball and Welcome Pachino.
Syed Nadeem Anwar’s four-year-old bay filly Haseena-e-Arab should make it two winners in a row for her proud owner, sprinting over the turf with the speedy Patricia and Arabian Queen following her in her wake in the very next race.
The bay horse Bahar-e-Arab ridden by Ghulam Shabbir II finished a close third behind Shore Footed and Fakhr-e-Sanghar two weeks ago.
Participating in the sixth race with eight runners in the field going over the same distance, Bahar-e-Arab should grab the top honours from stable companion Noor-e-Arab with Sarazen content to finish third.
In the concluding event with only six runners in contention, Irfan Mehdi’s four-year-old bay colt Shore Footed should make it two winners in a row with Saif Mohammad in the saddle.
The thoroughbred bay colt Sculptor however, will be a thorn in his side throughout the six furlong journey.
