LAHORE, June 4: Mushtaq Ali of Balochistan and Wasim Ahmed of Wapda entered the final of the 48kg class in the 30th national boxing championship at the Atiq Stadium on Saturday when this report was filed. Mushtaq Ali overcame the challenge of Ushaque Ali of Army when he was overscored in the second round and the referee stopped the contest.
Wasim was also overscored against Mohammad Ashraf of Railways in the first round..
In 51kg, Syed Jawad Ali of Navy had also qualified for the finals beating Shahid Khan of Karachi Port Trust as the winner was overscored in the third round.
The fight between Imran Hafeez (Wapda) and international Nauman Karim (Army) was to be held next.
Earlier, four more boxers of defending champion Army entered the semifinals by winning their quarterfinals on Friday night.
From Army after Ushaque Ali, Nauman Karim, Nawaz Dad and Shaukat Ali made the last four, their four more teammates including Muhammad Ashfaq, Faisal Karim, Syed Ahmed and Tanveer Shaukat also won their fights late on Friday’s night.
Karachi Port Trust (KPT) with six boxers in the semifinals emerged the second biggest team after Army. Their Shahid Khan, Zahid Hussain, Jan Muhammad, Dur Muhammad, Manzoor Ahmed and Imran Shah have made the last four.
Navy’s boxers also showed their presence in the arena as its five men Syed Jawad Ali, Muhammad Pervaiz, Allah Bux, Ejaz Mahmood and Ibne Raza will fight for the finals.
Railways, showed an improved performance as they are competing equally with Wapda as its four boxers Muhammad Ashraf, Gul Daraz, Karim Bakhsh, Khuram Shahzad are in the last four.
Wapda which started like a giant as its eight boxers had qualified for the quarterfinals but only four including Muhammad Wasim, Imran Hafeez, Hayatullah and Sahib Khan could survive for the semifinals round.
From Pakistan Air Force (PAF) four boxers including Sohail Baloch, Sajid Raja, Rashid Minhas and Muhammad Qasim also qualified for the semifinals.
From Balochistan ( Mushtaq Hussain, Syed Aziz), KESC ( Abid Jan, Zubair Hussain), NWFP (Amir Zada,Ishaq Khan) two boxers each qualified.
From Punjab (Tasawar Abbas) and from Sindh (Muhammad Ali) could only make the last four.
In 60 kg, Army’s Ashfaq outclassed Zeeshan Ahmed (Navy) as the RSC in the second round.
Faisal Karim earned victory against Javed Jan in the 64 kgs class winning in the second round when RSC. In 75 kgs, another Army boxer Syed Ahmed outclassed Shabbir Baloch (Sindh) as the RSC in the third round.
Tanveer Shaukat came out winner against Yasir Jamal of Sindh after being overscored in the first round.
