Ali strikes sparkling century

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 4: Islamabad and Rawalpindi went on run riot in their respective matches of the PCB National under-19 championship on Saturday. Rawalpindi, fired by Ali Sarfraz’s sparkling knock of 114 hit up 434 for eight off their 90 overs in their game against Azad Jammu and Kashmir at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Ali’s fine innings featured nine boundaries as he led the run-spree in which Zahid Mansoor collected 71 and Nauman Ali got an unbeaten 70.

Mahmood Azam picked up four wickets but was way too expensive, conceding 113 runs. AJK will begin their innings on Sunday.

Islamabad batsmen were as ruthless as Rawalpindi, slogging their way to 422 for nine in 90 overs against a hapless Chakwal at the Diamond Cricket Ground.

Arslan Shahzad topscored with 70 while half centuries also came off the bats of Imad Waseem (60) and Imran Fazal (55). The chief wicket-taker was Muhammad Zubair who had three scalps for which he gave away 104 runs.

Chakwal were barely off the mark when play ended on the first day of this two-day game.

Faisal Gulzar and Muhammad Jamshed were at the crease.
