Inter-club hockey from July 2

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, June 2: The Lahore district Inter-club hockey championship 2005 will be held at the National Hockey Stadium No 2 ground from July 2 to 13. President Lahore District Hockey Association (LDCA) Khubaib Ahmed Khan, told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

He claimed that 15 clubs, out of total 26 affiliated with the LDCA, would take part.

He said that last year LDCA managed to hold the championship despite illegal and unlawful ways adopted by his opposite group led by Khalid Rasool, the younger brother of former Olympian Akhtar Rasool.

He said that the number of the participating clubs could be increased this time from last number of 15 as more clubs were likely to join his body.

He said that his body had been paying annual fees to the Punjab Hockey Association for affiliation but even the opposite group was claiming itself genuine.

He said that the winners of the championship would get Rs 15,000 and runners-up Rs 10,000. Besides cash prizes, sports shirts, hockey sticks and track suits would be given to the semifinalists. The Man-of-the-Match of each match will also get Rs 500.

He said that some 30 players would be selected to attend a training camp and to form the LDCA team which would play a five match series against Sialkot district.
