‘First gas then vote’

Published June 3, 2005

GUJRANWALA, June 2: Residents of Naushera Virkan tehsil took out a procession here on Thursday against non-provision of gas for the last 20 years. The protesters threatened that they would boycott the local elections if their demand was not accepted at the earliest.

The protesters gathered outside the office of a local NGO and later marched along various roads. They had held banners and placards inscribed with their demands.

They chanted slogans against parliamentarians and other elected representatives for making false promises during election campaigns.

They urged the government to make arrangements for gas supply on a priority. — Correspondent
