LAHORE, June 2: Some officials of the LDA’s exemption and land management branches have allegedly pocketed Rs1.5 billion by selling 42 plots in Model Town (extension) on fake documents. The fraud surfaced when an officer of the LDA handed over evidences to the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment the other day. The suspects are yet to be identified.
ACE officials told Dawn on Thursday that fake documents of at least 42 plots in the Model Town (extension) scheme, measuring 10 marla to two kanal each, were prepared by some workers of the exemption and land management branches.
They said the LDA officials had managed to get the Model Town (extension) plots exempted in violation of the authority’s law. “Under the LDA Act, no exemption is allowed to the Model Town (extension) area,” they said.
They said after getting exemption, the LDA officials used to sell the plots and in most cases resale them through fake owners.
Besides, they also showed some of the Faisal Town plots in the vicinity of the Bhekewal area and vice versa, the ACE officials claimed. The ACE has taken the record into possession and started investigation.
According to an ACE official, the case was quite complicated and required time and cooperation of the LDA high-ups to identify the culprits.
CASE: Meanwhile, the ACE has registered a case against an inspector of the excise and taxation department’s motor branch for embezzling millions of rupees.
The ACE said on Thursday that Qaisar Wajid Khan committed a fraud in registration fee and had been suspended from service.
The ACE revealed that most of the clerks and inspectors of the branch used to make unnecessary objections on the applications received for new registration or transfer of vehicles.
“The practice creates problems for applicants, who have to contact agents on its premises to get their grievances redressed,” it added.
