DADU, June 2: A group of growers and political activists held a demonstration in Sehwan on Thursday against authorities for not starting a water pumping station of the Danister Canal to supply water for irrigation purpose. They were led by Sehwan Sindh Abadgar Ittehad leaders Karimdad, Gul Hassan Rind, Mohammad Khan Bhutto and Daim Talpur, taluka People’s Party Parliamentarians leader Ghulam Shabbir Sehto, taluka Muttahida Qaumi Movement organizer Ghulam Nabi Channa, taluka Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz organizer Niaz Halepoto and taluka PPP Youth Wing organizer Murtaza Khan. The protesters said the pumping station was inoperative for three years.
They warned that if the pumping station was not made operational and saline water of the canal was not drained out, growers would block the Indus Highway near Sehwan on June 6.
Later, they observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
HUNGER STRIKE: Activists of the Sindh People’s Youth Organization-SB observed a token hunger strike here on Thursday to protest against delay in deciding the Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case.
DEMONSTRATION: A large number of sharecroppers from Farooqabad Qambrani village staged a demonstration against a landlord of the area for not providing them share of wheat produce.
Protesters alleged landlord Niaz Buriro was not providing share of wheat produce of current season to 200 farmers.
They said at the behest of landlord, the police arrested Khamiso, Piral, Nazeer and Ghulam Ali Qambrani and police were mounting the pressure to displace the sharecroppers from the village.
They demanded that the district administration should take action against the landlord and ensure release of innocent villagers and their due share of wheat produce.
