HYDERABAD, June 2: In a crackdown on leaders of the Pakistan Telecommunication Employees union, police on Wednesday night conducted raids in Mirpurkhas and Larkana and arrested some of them. The employees continued their strike in protest against privatization of the company and non-acceptance of their demands.

Personnel of law-enforcement agencies were deployed at PTCL buildings in Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and Larkana.

A union leader, Yousuf Chandio, was picked up the Satellite Town police in Mirpurkhas.

Later, Mr Chandio was released on personal bond after a senior PTCL official approached police.

LARKANA: Police on Wednesday night arrested Masood Abro, central vice-chairman of the union, from his house.

Police also conducted raids on the houses of central chairman Zulfikar Sangi, Ayaz Jaferi, Sarwar Abro and Allah Dino Narejo but they were not available there.

The main gate of the central telephone exchange was closed for two hours on Thursday and blocked the entry of union workers, the sources said.
