Zakir century sets up victory
KARACHI, June 1: A fine century by Zakir Afridi enabled Zone-VI Blues defeat Zone-I Blues by 53 runs in the KCCA Under-19 Inter-zonal cricket championship at the Student Sports ground on Tuesday. Zakir hammered 107 with 11 fours and one six as Zone-VI Blues made 270 for six in 50 overs. Daulat Khan (55, six fours) and Abdul Moid (51, seven fours) also made useful contributions.
Zone-I Blues were restricted to 217 for eight in their turn.
Promising Rameez Raja turned in a superb bowling performance to help Zone-III Whites beat Zone-VII Blues by 27 runs at the Asifabad Sports ground. Rameez claimed six for 25 with his off-spinners as the Blues were dismissed for 160 in the 47th over.
Meanwhile, in matches played on Monday, Zone-III Blues secured a thrilling two-run win over Zone-I Whites at the Student Sports ground with Shan Masood (80, 11 fours) and Zeeshan Jamil (70, 12 fours) excelling for them.
Basit Butt struck an unbeaten 102, including eight fours and one six, as Zone-VII Whites outclassed Zone-V Greens by 211 runs at the Asifabad Sports ground.
Fazal Subhan (83, seven fours and three sixes) and Yasir Hussain (50, six fours) also batted well to guide Zone-VII Whites to 287 for seven.
Paceman Mohammad Asif (five for 18) and off-spinner Afzal Hussain (four for 11) then shared the bowling honours as Zone-V Greens folded up for only 76 in 27.3 overs.
