ISLAMABAD, June 1: Rawalpindi piled up a healthy 340 on the first day of the PCB National under-19 championship match against Islamabad at the Diamond Cricket ground. Ali Sarfraz struck 10 fine boundaries scoring 88 as he led the Rawalpindi run-spree in which Asif Khan and Asif Mumtaz also clubbed half centuries.

Islamabad were only themselves to blame dropping quite a few catches that allowed their opponents to gain an upper hand.

Kamran Hussain captured four wickets for Islamabad, who were 44 for no loss when play ended for the day. Naeem Anjum was 23 and with him was Imran Fazal on 19.

Jhelum scored a massive 161-run victory against Azad Jammu and Kashmir at the KRL Stadium, right arm paceman Atif Shahzad doing the damage with 5-32.

Asked to bat first, Jhelum hit up 241 with Aqeel Ahmed and Aamir Riaz making half centuries. Fast bowler Imran Khurshid claimed 5-66 to be the most successful AJK bowler.

Jhelum then bowled out their rivals for just 80, Shahid Imran and Mohammad Ayaz also joining Atif on the wicket-takers’ list by picking up two apiece.

Attock crushed Chakwal by 10 wickets at the ARL ground. After opting to bat first, Chakwal could manage only 149 runs. Owais Zia scored 53 and Qasim Maqsood chipped in with 36.

They were restricted by paceman Akhtar Ayub who snared 5-61 and Mohammad Javed’s haul of 3-27.

Najamul Hasan and Aamir Bashir starred in the chase with both cracking half centuries as Attock overhauled the total in 11.5 overs.

In his innings of 76, Najam hit 17 fours and a six while Aamir hammered 10 boundaries and two towering sixes and remained not out.
