VLADIVOSTOK: Russia and China will work together to counter destabilization in Central Asia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday after meeting his Chinese counterpart, Li Zhaoxing, in Russia’s Pacific port city of Vladivostok.

Speaking after talks with Mr Li, Mr Lavrov said the two countries would step up cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional security body, to bolster stability and ‘combat terrorism in light of recent changes in the region’.

“We agree on the need to increase efforts to make the Shanghai Cooperation Organization more effective... above all in the area of fighting terrorism in light of recent changes in the region,” Mr Lavrov told reporters.—AFP
