‘Categorization of newspapers’ employees not acceptable’

KARACHI, May 31: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation have demanded immediate implementation of the Seventh Wage Board Award for all newspapers employees and declared that any categorization of the employees will not be accepted by them.

The PFUJ secretary-general released here on Tuesday some of the resolutions adopted during a meeting of the two organizations in Islamabad from May 26 to 28.

One of the resolutions said that the two organizations would draw their future course of action if the award was not implemented by June 15.

The meeting decided that journalists would wear black armbands during the budget session in the National and provincial assemblies and distribute handbills among lawmakers on the issue of the delay in implementation of the award.

The meeting said that any division between journalists and non-journalists would be a violation of the Newspapers Employees Act, 1973, and of the resolutions passed by the assemblies and the cabinet.
