Musharraf asks Sindh govt to maintain law and order

ISLAMABAD, May 31: President Pervez Musharraf has strongly condemned the killing of former MNA Aslam Mujahid and loss of lives in a terrorist attack on a mosque in Karachi and appealed to the people to unite in foiling the designs of subversive elements.

In a message, the president expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the two incidents that took place on Monday evening. He sympathized with the families of victims and said exemplary punishment would be awarded to the terrorists.

He directed the Sindh government to take all possible measures for maintenance of peace and security in Karachi and step up vigilance to ensure protection of lives and property of the people. The president appealed to the people to remain calm and maintain sectarian harmony and brotherhood.

He urged the masses to join hands with the government in thwarting the designs of the elements trying to disturb the congenial environment for their vested interests.

He said: “The government will in no way tolerate the menace of terrorism but a critical responsibility devolves on each segment of the society to be pro-active in failing the designs of extremist elements who want to disrupt peace and tranquillity.”—APP
