KARACHI, May 31: A tense stand off between two groups in Malir continued on Tuesday night following the death of a man in firing. Three persons were wounded in the clash. Police said that groups from Jinnah Colony and Jaffar-i-Tayyar were engaged in a dispute since the last few days over installation of board of Masjid Farooq-i-Azam at Nad-i-Ali Mor.

On Tuesday, both sides clashed resulting in exchange of fire. Subsequently, Muhammad Mukhtar, Zubair, Naseer and Amjad were wounded. They were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Mukhtar was pronounced dead.

Police resorted to teargas shelling in the area to break off the confrontation.

UC Nazim Jaffarul Hasan urged the Rangers to intervene in the evening. Rangers moved into the affected areas and nabbed several men from both communities. However, despite the arrests a stand off continued between the two groups as negotiations were under way between their leaders.
