IAEA working on pact with Riyadh

VIENNA: The UN atomic agency is urging its members to accept a deal for Saudi Arabia to finally allow inspections of its nuclear facilities, even if there is concern the agreement struck could severely limit the agency’s investigative rights, according to a document.

International Atomic Energy Agency officials have negotiated a “safeguards ageement” with Saudi Arabia and are urging the IAEA’s 35-nation board “to conclude ... and subsequently implement” the deal when the board meets in Vienna on June 13, according to the confidental IAEA document.—AFP
