KARACHI, May 30: Naib Amir of the Karachi Jamaat-i-Islami Aslam Mujahid was killed here on Monday. Police said Mr Mujahid, with other people, was returning from the funeral of a JI worker when unknown persons opened fire at them near Babar Mor to create panic.
Later, when on the way home, Aslam Mujahid stopped his car at Landhi No. 4, and other occupants of the car disembarked, around 25 to 30 armed men encircled his car and took him away at gunpoint with the car. Several hours later, the bullet riddled body of Aslam Mujahid, 40, was found in his car at Landhi No.6.
Police said Aslam Mujahid was returning after attending the funeral of Jamal Tahir, an activist of Jamaat, who was shot dead by unknown persons in Landhi late on Sunday night.
The police said the number plates of the vehicle were missing. A senior police official said assailants had blackened the face of Aslam Mujahid with spray paint. The victim had suffered four bullet wounds, they added.
The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem. Hospital sources said victim had received bullet wounds in the head, chest and shoulder. Meanwhile, Provincial Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi said that a committee, headed by DIG investigation, Manzoor Mughal, had been formed and would make efforts to catch the killers.
He announced an increase in the reward amount from Rsone million to Rs2.5 million for those identifying the killers.
