KUWAIT CITY, May 30: Kuwait has granted three-month relaxation to over 400 affected Pakistanis to get their residence visa or return home, said a press release issued by the Pakistani embassy. The stranded Pakistanis were left alone after it was revealed that they were brought into Kuwait on visas of company that were either closed or did not exist.
The press release said the decision on the matter had been taken at a high-level meeting between the Pakistan embassy and Kuwait Labour ministry officials. Maj-Gen Thabet Al Muhanna, Assistant Undersecretary Ministry of Interior presided over the meeting.
The meeting took the following decision: (i) The concession already granted to the stranded Pakistanis for repatriating without blacklisting/payment of fines shall continue up to Aug 31, 2005. They can either travel on passports or on out-passes issued by the embassy.
(ii) Those stranded Pakistanis whose passports are available and wished to remain in Kuwait should find new sponsors and report to Major Hadi Al-Hajri in the Research and Investigation Department, Shuwaikh with their sponsorship letter and passport. If their documents are in order, the department will grant them release for transfer of sponsorship to the new sponsor.
(iii) Those Pakistanis whose passports are not available may be issued new passports by the embassy after which they may also report to the above officer with their passport/sponsorship letter.
(iv)Those people whose residence had already been affixed but are facing problems due to closure of the files of their sponsor can also transfer their residence by following the above procedure.
(v) A grace period of three months shall be allowed to the stranded people with effect from June 1, 2005 to Aug 31, 2005, to either leave the country or transfer their sponsorship to other sponsors through the above procedure.
