Mahmood IV record victory


HYDERABAD, May 30: Mahmood IV made it to victory stand after outplaying Hyderabad White 25-5, Winsome 18-12, Hyderabad Green 20-10, Aces 22-8 and Four Bidders Club 21-9 victory points (VPs) in the 4th Open bridge tournament on Sunday.

Mahmood IV’s Dr Hashim, Iqbal Abedi, Noor Alam and Mahmood Naqvi accumulated a total of 91 VPs to lift trophy and win cash prizes.

MAQ comprising Mushtaq, Maqbool Ahmed, Dr Ahsan and Jawad Abedi collected 89 points from winning four matches and losing one.

They put up a spirited fight against Four Bidders 17-13, Candyland 16-14, Hyderabad IV 23-7, EFU 19-11 and Aces 19-11 to score 90 VPs for the second position.

Hyderabad Colours finished a shade behind MAQ with 89 VPs from winning three matches, one drawn and one lost. Saleem Ahmed, Raees Ahmed, Asghar Abbas and Yawar Abbas made up Hyderabad Colours.

In the Pairs contest held earlier at KBA, 28 pairs were placed separately in two houses for Scramble Mitchel Movement.

Competing from green section, Dr Ahmed Hasan-Maqbool Ahmed and Khalid Mohiuddin-Yawar Abbas made 59.13 per cent for the top berth. Syed Ameer Hasan-Tariq Zafar finished third with 56.75 per cent.

From the red section, the veterans Ghaffar Qureshi-Naseem Arzoo scored 59.92 per cent for a clear victory over their nearest rivals, Hamid Mohiuddin-Ziaullah Baig 56.87 per cent and M Azwarul Haq-Shakeel Chandna 56.75 per cent.—PPI
