GUJRANWALA, May 30: The Tax Bar Association and various industrialists have opposed the issuance of short document notices by the income tax department. Speaking at a joint meeting held here on Monday, association president Nisar Ahmad Sheikh and former bar chief Chaudhry Siddiq Ahmad said the CBR had chalked out a policy in 2003 that no short document notice would be issued to industrialists and traders by the income tax department.

They said these notices were being issued in Gujranwala zone only as no such notice had been issued in other zones — Lahore, Multan and Karachi.

They have sent a memorandum to CBR Chairman Abdullah Yousaf and tax member Mohammad Suleman, demanding that the income tax department should be ordered not to issue such notices to the business community.
