Rulers’ silence ‘prompts US to abuse Muslims’

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, May 30: Tehrik-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan has said the US is committing excesses against the Muslims around the world because of the criminal silence of the ruling elite. He was speaking at the launching ceremony of Urdu translation of US former attorney general Ramsey Clarke’s book titled US War Crimes in Iraq at the Lahore Press Club on Monday.

Mr Khan said the US was free to give a raw deal to the citizens of the Islamic countries because the rulers were not even ready to speak against the violation of their rights.

He said most of the Islamic countries were being ruled by the US puppets who remained busy in making efforts to please it instead of protecting the rights of their citizens. The situation would not change till the introduction of real democracy there.

He said the ruling elite in Muslim world had not opposed the unprovoked US attack on Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pakistan government also remained silent spectator to the desecration of the Holy Quran and torture of its citizens in violation of Geneva Conventions at Guantanamo Bay. The treatment meted out to those returning from there was even worse. The NGOs also did not protest because they received funds from abroad and were content with projecting a stereotype image abroad by organizing marathons for human rights.

The US had handed down death sentence to entire Afghanistan only three weeks after 9/11 despite the fact that no Afghan was involved in the incident because the Taliban refused to hand over Osama bin Laden to it and demanded a proof of his involvement in the incident. US Secretary of State Rice recently admitted that the attack would not have been possible without facilitation by the Pakistan government, Mr Khan added.

He said he had committed the mistake of supporting Gen Pervez Musharraf but would not support even an angel wearing a uniform in future.

Adviser to chief minister Mowahid Husain said the Muslims were being maltreated by the US because the rulers were not fulfilling their responsibilities. The Arab rulers had first helped Saddam attack Iran to please the US and remained silent when the Americans attacked Iraq.

Pakistan Labour Party secretary general Farooq Tariq said the book exposed the war crimes committed in Iraq by Bush Senior. The Bush Junior administration had not behaved differently during the ongoing occupation of the country, he continued.

He said the religious fanatics now staging demonstrations against the desecration of the Holy Quran by the Americans had received $30 billion from them for fighting against the Russians in Afghanistan.

Former law minister S. M. Masood said the book exposed the crimes committed by the US forces during the attack on Iraq ordered by Bush Senior.

Aziz Mazhar said 125,000 people died during the US attack on Iraq and 250,000 children died on account of its sanctions against it.
