KARACHI: Guard takes away Rs6m from bank

KARACHI, May 30: A security guard and his accomplices took away Rs6 million from a bank branch in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday. The TPO of Gulshan-i-Iqbal told Dawn that a sweeper entered the bank and was taken hostage by the men already there.

A guard who arrived at the bank for his duty was also tied up. The TPO said that Javed Khan, 45, who was posted at the branch, had worked out the robbery with his 10 associates who were present inside the branch.

They waited till the arrival of the cashier, had the keys to the strong room.

They cleaned out the strong room and escaped.

The TPO said that the suspects had been inside the branch since Sunday or Saturday.

ACCIDENT: Three faculty members of Jamia Al Rasheedia died in a road accident in Ahsanabad on Monday.

Police said that a double cabin rammed into Hi-roof of Jaima Al Rasheedia in Ahsanabad. As a result, Mufti Amir and Maulana Nasurullah died on the spot and three others injured. Maulana Ayaz Kashif died on way to the hospital while Maulana Adnan and Maulana Sultan were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
