Fresh probe into attack on ex-hospital worker ordered
ATTOCK, May 29: Justice Mohammad Muzammil Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has asked the district police officer (DPO) to once again initiate an impartial inquiry into a case in which a former storekeeper of DHQ Hospital Attock was allegedly attacked by a medical superintendent. Syed Maruf Shah filed a petition with the court through his counsel M. Kowkab Iqbal advocate in which he stated that the medical superintendent of DHQ Hospital Attock, Dr Sultan Mehmood, attacked him with a pistol on April 7 and threatened him to withdraw an embezzlement case worth Rs1.1 million filed against the doctor with the anti-corruption department.
He said he brought the matter to the Attock city police, but they were reluctant to register a case against the medical superintendent due to his influence.
The petitioner contended that he had submitted an affidavit and provided evidence to them, but still no action was taken on his complaint.
The judge, after hearing the arguments of the petitioner and examining the relevant record, disposed of the petition and directed the respondent to take remedial steps on the basis on his impartial inquiry. He further contended that the petitioner could file a fresh application with the respondent who should take action on it within one month.
Later on Saturday the petitioner submitted a fresh application to DPO Attock Capt (retired) Zafar Iqbal Awan for legal action against the DHQ hospital medical superintendent.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent Dr Sultan Mehmood said there had been some disputes between him and the former storekeeper who was now using such tactics to pressurize him.
He claimed that the charges levelled against him were baseless, and these had also been proved fake during preliminary investigation by Attock city police.
