Rain lashes parts of Sindh

Dawn Report

HYDERABAD, May 29: A major part of Hyderabad was hit by power breakdown on Sunday as the city received the first monsoon rain. The rain started at around 6:30pm and continued intermittently, breaking the heat spell. People had been experiencing sizzling heat for more than two weeks.

The Met office recorded 9mm of rains till 7:30pm. The temperature was recorded at 24 degrees centigrade at the minimum and 40.5 at the maximum. Humidity in the air was recorded at 53 per cent at the maximum and 24 per cent at the minimum.

Intermittent rainfall was reported also from several other areas.

According to the Met office forecast, more rain, accompanied by thunder and dust storm, is likely in parts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana.

Power went off as soon as the rain, coupled with strong winds, started. Almost all feeders tripped, plunging the city into darkness. Till 8:20pm, the power breakdown continued. However, no major damage to any installation was reported.

NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah city and the adjoining areas received rain after a dust storm hit the district late on Saturday night.
