Sialkot without DCO for a month
SIALKOT, May 29: Sialkot has been without a district coordination officer for the last one month. DCO Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi was transferred to Lahore a month ago, and Mian Abid Javaid was deputed DCO who was made OSD and transferred to Lahore after two days of posting. Since then no DCO has been appointed.
People from all walks of life have urged the chief minister to ensure early appointment of the DCO for giving relief to the general public. Milkmen’s strike: The supply of fresh milk to the city and its surrounding areas on Sunday remained suspended as the milkmen went on a strike to protest against the refusal by shop owners to raise the price.
Citizens Rights Forum chairman Dr Muneer Butt told journalists that the city shopkeepers were already selling yogurt at Rs28 per kilogramme and milk at Rs26 per litre, but the milkmen supplying the commodity from rural areas to the city had been demanding increase in the price of fresh milk.
As the shopkeepers refused to increase the price, the milkmen stopped supplying fresh milk to the city, he added.
Meanwhile, taking advantage of the situation, wholesalers and retailers had started selling packed and sterilized milk at inflated rates, he said.
Dr Butt urged the tehsil municipal administration and District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid to take steps for restoration of milk supply to the city to provide relief to the people.
Indian IGP: Indian Punjab IGP Muhammad Mustafa visited his ancestral home in Trunk Bazaar, Sialkot city, late on Saturday.
He met his old friends and refreshed pre-partition memories.
Later, talking to journalists at Chaudhry Akhtar Variyo’s residence at Cantonment, Mr Mustafa hoped that the ongoing CBMs between India and Pakistan would pave way for peaceful solutions to all issues.
While talking to the local notables, the Indian Punjab IGP hailed Sialkot’s export culture and socio-economic development.
