NAROWAL, May 29: The Narowal railway police have disputed the claim of the Gujranwala police about the recovery of a murder case complainant. The railway police said they had recovered Muhammad Rafiq when his kidnappers escaped from a train to save themselves from law enforcers, and not the Gujranwala police as claimed by their DPO.

Rafiq, a resident of Jhullan village in Naushera Virkan, was kidnapped some three weeks ago by his rivals one of who he had nominated in the murder of his nephew.

The Narowal railway police said the kidnappers were shifting Rafiq from Sri Rampura railway station to some other place by administering him some intoxicant, but he regained consciousness near Baddomalhi railway station. When a ticket examiner, Amjad Javed, came there along with two policemen, Rafiq raised an alarm and told the policemen about the kidnappers, they said.

The two policeman, Rehmat Ali and Muhammad Idrees, tried to catch the kidnappers but they jumped out of the running train and escaped. The policemen, later, took Rafiq to the railway police post and informed the Narowal and Gujranwala police about the incident.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the local railway police had recovered the man and the Gujranwala DPO Dr Asif Mushtaq’s claim was false. They said the Gujranwala police higher-ups had awarded their officials for the missing man’s recovery the credit for which went to the Narowal railway police.
