KARACHI, May 29: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has demanded that a UN committee be formed to investigate the desecration of the Holy Quran at Guantanamo Bay detention Centre and those found guilty be given exemplary punishment.

In a statement issued from London, Mr Hussain said that there were millions of books containing religious knowledge and information but holy books did have special significance for their followers.

“The entire Muslim Ummah regards the Holy Quran as the most sacred book and the unfortunate incident of its desecration has caused deep concern and anguish in the Muslim world.”

Therefore, a proper inquiry must be conducted by a UN committee to fix responsibility, and the culprits must be given exemplary punishment, he added.
