KARACHI: Man kills wife, injures daughter

KARACHI, May 29: A man killed his wife and wounded his daughter in Old Golimar over a domestic matter on Sunday. Police said that Ali Ashgar, 60, stabbed his wife Amber Jan, 55, and wounded his daughter Yasmeen. He was arrested immediately after the incident. Police shifted the body and injured to Civil Hospital.

According to the initial investigation, the old man was at odds with his wife over the marriage proposal of his daughter Yasmeen.

DIES: The decomposed body of an elderly woman was recovered from her apartment late on Saturday night.

The woman was identified as Zeenat Begum, 80, mother of deceased television artist Rohi Bano.

Police said that they were informed by her neighbours about stench emanating from the apartment. Police broke down the door and found the body lying on the bed. The body was at least four days old and badly decomposed.

Police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination. According to the postmortem report, the cause of her death was cardiac arrest.

Police said that the victim used to live along with her grandson who had been away for the last few days.

DROWNED: Two persons drowned in sea in separate incidents on Sunday.

Edhi sources said that Muhammad Ibrahim, 18, was swept away by strong currents at Sandspit beach. His body was fished out by Edhi divers, who later handed it over to his parents.

At Clifton beach, the body of an unidentified man was washed ashore on Sunday.

The body was sent to the JPMC for legal formalities. Following post-mortem examination, the body was sent to Edhi morgue for identification.

In charge of the ERC, Zafar Khan, told Dawn that despite ban on swimming, police were not deployed at the beach.
