Jockey championship

LAHORE, May 28: With only three race-days left before the Lahore racing season 2004-05 comes to an end, the contest for jockeys championship has entered a crucial stage. At present only three jockeys seem to be in the run for carrying the seasons honours on the jockeys victory table calculated officially.

They are with total wins in brackets: M.Hanif (38), Shahid Rehman (36) and Aamar Parvaiz (32). However, on numerical strength, the real contest is between M. Hanif and Shahid Rehman.

With the championship in view jockey M.Hanif is going round stable to stable to get rides of mounts because as much rides he can pick the better the chances would be for winning the championship. On the other hand Shahid Rehman is content with whatever mounts he is offered. He is least bothered to go around stables. —A.G.
