Brummell poised for victory

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, May 28: Three-year-old English colt, Brummell, who posted two amazing back to back victories in his previous outings, looks poised to win the feature event and accomplish a hat trick when the Lahore Summer Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday. Brummell, a bay colt from Polish Precedent out-of-Fashion is contesting in the Lodhran Plate, a class II and III handicap race to be gone over 1600m.

Among his seven rivals barring last-minute withdrawals, English filly I ‘M’ Dancing and Ponche can pose him challenge, if there is any. This will be seventh race of the day.

In the sixth and supporting event, five-year-old English mare, Calendar Girl, seems set to win the Samma Satta Plate class IV division I handicap race to be run over the sprinting distance of 1200m.

The progeny of Revoque out-of-March Fourteenth, Calendar Girl ran a close second to Tortuette on May 15 last over 1400m. She looks ready for the fray at present when the distance of the race has been curtailed by 200m. Calendar Girl has only to beat Dixie Queen among her eight rivals, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

In the Samma Satta Plate class IV division II to be gone over 1200m, two of the dozen runners come into reckoning. They are four-year-old colt, Empire Maker, four-year-old filly, Poly Nest.

Both should fight it out. However, on handicap Poly Nest, a daughter of Polinesso out-of-Sinsinati, has a slight edge over Empire Maker, a son of Cry For The Clown.

This will be the fifth race of the card.

The fourth race, a class IV division III handicap race over 1200m has eight runner subject to no last-minute withdrawals.

This is packed with sprinters and could turn out to be an open affair.

On recent performance five-year-old Squash Ball should come home rolling over the field.

Three-year-old filly Chici Chitta and another filly Eid are the prominent runners among a big field of 18 in the third race, the Kotli Plate Class V division I to be run over 1200m.

Both are good pedigreed fillies. However, the way this daughter of Cisco Wells out-of-Alert Voyagers, Chici Chitta, ran a good third last week should show further improvement to overpower Eid when both clash for supremacy in the final stretch. Yet another filly, Silver Queen may get the third place. The first race will be held at 1pm.
