Kasuri wants West’s views on Islam corrected


ISLAMABAD, May 28: Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri on Saturday called on the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to play an effective role in countering misperceptions about Islam in the West. He made these remarks in a meeting with OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanogolu who called on him to discuss details of work of the Commission of Eminent Persons and other matters of mutual interest.

They also discussed the follow-up action on the president’s initiative on enlightened moderation and ways and means of making the OIC more effective.

Mr Kasuri appreciated the contribution of the secretary-general in efforts to reach out to other international organizations and important countries on the issue of importance to Islamic Ummah.

They discussed in detail the work of the Commission of Eminent Persons.

Ihsanogolu expressed the hope that the recommendations of the commission would enable the OIC to meet the dynamics of the emerging world in the new millennium.—APP
