Music academy opened

KHAIRPUR, May 28: District Nazim Nafisa Shah inaugurated the Ustad Manzoor Ali Khan Musical Academy here on Friday. The academy, named after one of the subcontinent’s prominent Khan Sahibs, Ustad Manzoor Ali Khan, will be run by the All-Sindh Sangeetkar Association and the district government.

Speaking on the occasion, Nafisa Shah said the academy had been set up to pay tribute to services of the renowned musician of Sindh.

She said Khan Sahib perfectly sung “Wayee” of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai in the manner of Kafi Thaath.

She said it was the biggest contribution by him towards Sindhi music.

She said the students could participate in the academy during the summer vacation.

Later, a music programme was held at the Naz High School which continued the whole night.

Ghafoor Soomro, Hanif Lashari, Ghulam Ali Sandeelo and Farzana Parveen enthralled the audience.

JSQM: Office-bearers of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and farmers of Kotdiji took out a procession here on Saturday from Chhatti chowk in protest against non-availability of water in Mahar Shakh, a sub-minor of Mohabbat Wah for the last year.—Correspondent
