NEW DELHI, May 27: Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest on Friday as complete shutdown observed in occupied Kashmir against the desecration of Holy Quran by the US troops in Guantanamo bay detention Centre.

The strike call was given by APHC chief, Ali Shah Geelani and supported by several groups including Jamaat-i-Islami, Dukhtaran-i-Millat and Muslim Khawateen Markaz against the desecration of the Holy book by the US troops.

Mr Geelani was put under house arrest early Friday morning when he was planning to lead a protest demonstration after Friday prayers, said a news report quoting official sources.

Four activists of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement were taken into preventive custody as they staged a protest against the incident on residency road at Lal Chowk, the sources said. The protestors raised anti-US slogans and burnt the flag of the country to voice their anger and ire on the incident, added the sources.

Similar protests were held at several places across occupied Kashmir, the report said.—APP
